Kata Coaching

Creatives aiming to enhance any aspect of their process can benefit from coaching over an 8 to 12-week cycle using the Toyota Kata method of scientific thinking. This involves daily 20-minute coaching sessions 4-5 times a week. Whether you're writing, seeking to cultivate joy and wonder in routine tasks, overcoming obstacles, fundraising, networking, developing a project, or working on post-production and marketing, Kata coaching can guide your journey. It's fully customizable.

I firmly believe that everyone needs a coach for the things that truly matter to them. Please read the testimonials to see how Kata has made a difference for the people I've coached. Too often, creatives work and struggle alone for too long, or find themselves trapped in situations that fail to honor their unique strengths and nature, leading to a multitude of negative impacts.

I'm thrilled to introduce this specialized scientific thinking skill—best known from the manufacturing field—to our domain.

Story Editing

A 10-week process in which I engage weekly with story creators at any stage of their pre-production writing process, whether it be for a narrative or documentary. My philosophy is to meet creators where they are, instead of imposing an artificial structure onto their vision. Over the course of ten sessions, we build understanding and trust as I conduct in-depth interviews to absorb what matters to you and why you're telling this story.

These comprehensive interviews are recorded and transcribed. Subsequently, we take a step back to search for comparables, both contemporary and historical, across various formats. Then we transition to structure and character development, drilling into transformational arcs, employing research for compelling details, and ensuring a plot that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats.

Finally, we perfect the conclusion by imparting a valuable lesson for the audience that has invested their time and attention in your story. I offer consultations for a maximum of four projects concurrently.

“Combining both rigorous structure and delightfully spontaneous chemistry, Sarah motivated me to transform my career and life in ways that I hadn’t imagined when I started the Kata process. In defining and refining my vision and how to make it tangible with Sarah’s coaching, I attained a great goal that feels like the home that I’d been seeking all along.”~ Christopher, Educational Developer
